What is hydrogen and what does it do?
What is Hydrogen
Hydrogen (H₂) is the smallest, lightest, one of the oldest and most abundant element in the universe. Matter in the universe is 90% hydrogen, and all heavier elements (up to iron) in the periodic table, were created by nuclear fusion in stars, with hydrogen as the basis.
Studies on the positive properties of the hydrogen molecule date back to 1940, and the first study published in the science journal Science, describing the positive effects of hydrogen in treating skin cancer in mice, dates back to 1975.
But it was not until 2007 that Hydrogen Therapy really took off after a publication in Nature Medicine by Dr. Shigeo Otha and his team, who demonstrated the positive effects of hydrogen as an antioxidant (in cytotoxic oxygen radicals).
There are no known side effects or adverse effects of inhaling hydrogen, provided the hydrogen is inhaled in combination with oxygen, otherwise there is a risk of hypoxia (oxygen deficiency in tissues).
There is virtually no free hydrogen on Earth, only in association with other molecules, such as water (H₂O) and hydrocarbons (fossil fuels, such as methane (CH₄). As a free molecule (H₂), it rises and finally disappears into space. It has such a small mass that it escapes the Earth’s gravitational field.
All life on earth consists of and depends on hydrogen compounds, such as water, fats and amino acids.(Source) So is man. Humans and animals themselves, with the help of bacteria in the colon, produce hydrogen, methane and some more gases. This hydrogen gas also helps neutralize “free radicals. However, according to Dr. Paul Barattiero, more than 90% of people lack the good bacteria in the intestines to produce enough hydrogen.
Hydrogen is good for health
Hydrogen is therefore good for health, acting as a selective antioxidant, hydrating the body and providing energy. As a result, harmful substances are cleared away, and the body can once again do what it is supposed to do, in optimal health!
